Wild Dogs off to hot start
It's been an encouraging start for the Warragul and District Cricket Association under 13s side, remaining undefeated after two rounds of their Gippsland Cricket League campaign.
After a rain interrupted start to the tournament with multiple matches postponed, Warragul and District has recorded back to back wins in the under 13s for the first time since 2022/23.
First up the Wild Dogs picked up a five-wicket win over Cricket Latrobe Valley at Logan Park in Warragul.
Batting first, Latrobe Valley were dismissed for just 84 with Harry McCarthy (Ellinbank), Jonah Glover (Drouin) and Flynn O'Hara (Garfield-Tynong) taking two wickets each.
In response Warragul and District passed the target five wickets down with 12 overs remaining, Lenny Barake (Western Park) remaining unbeaten on 49 to guide the home side to victory.
Over the weekend Sale-Maffra got off to a blistering start, putting on a 50-run stand for the opening wicket at better than a run a ball.
But with a great team bowling performance Warragul and District were able to restrict Sale-Maffra to 8/126 from their 40 over. Isaiah Glover (Drouin) really put the brakes on, taking 3/6 from six overs.
Warragul and District were able to reach that target four wickets down with five overs remaining in a rain-affected run chase.
Fraser Rose (Garfield-Tynong) led the way with an unbeaten half-century, ably supported by Elijah Robinson (Drouin) who made 25.
Warragul and District will look to continue their winning ways when they take on Leongatha and District at Drouin's Bellbird Park on December 14.
