Help shape youth events in Baw Baw with young people aged 12 to 25 years now sought to join Springboard FReeZA.

Springboard FReeZA, with the support of Baw Baw Shire’s youth officer, work to select, design, plan and deliver music, arts and cultural events including battle of the bands, film festivals and workshops for youth in our community.

Not deterred by COVID, the committee of young people delivered more events and reached more youth than ever before in 2020.  It delivered eight events between November 2019 and October 2020 – two in-person and six online – reaching more than 15,000 people.

The pivot to online events provided new opportunities to reach youth audiences in remote communities, and the committee will continue to deliver a mix of in-person and online events this year.

Springboard FReeZA is a youth leadership program providing opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, add experience to your resume and have a say in what youth events are run in the community.

“Council’s Springboard FReeZA committee is a great opportunity for young people to get involved, get industry experience, and deliver events that matter to them,” Baw Baw Shire mayor Danny Goss said.

Springboard FReeZA committee member Eliza Romano said being part of the team had built knowledge in running an event, advertising on social media and even helped with her job.

In addition to council's contribution to resourcing the youth portfolio, Baw Baw Shire received a $73,500 state government grant to deliver the FReeZA youth program from 2019 to 2021.
