Weebar Rd remains community priority

A critical roundabout project, new West Gippsland Hospital and improved infrastructure were identified as the top priorities for Drouin residents who spoke with local federal and state members of parliament recently.

Federal Member for Monash Mary Aldred and state Member for Narracan Wayne Farnham hosted a mobile office in Drouin recently, providing an opportunity for residents to stop for a chat and sign a petition calling for the Weebar Rd roundabout to be built.

Working together to attract funding, Ms Aldred and Mr Farnham have spoken on the urgent need to deliver the roundabout at national and state levels on multiple occasions.
"It is quickly approaching five years of a concrete bollard effectively closing Weebar Rd in one direction," Ms Aldred said. "It's simply not good enough and I hear the Drouin community's frustration."
"We've been fighting for Weebar Rd funding for years," Mr Farnham said. "The minister must prioritise this project and give our community the immediate relief it needs."
"Drouin has been left suffering under the burden of growth and congestion. Yet for as little as two hours per day of interest in which this state pays, this roundabout could be funded.
"Labor cannot be trusted to deliver the infrastructure we need after decades of neglect. Only a Liberal government will get on with delivering these vital projects for our regional communities," Mr Farnham said.
Community support for a new hospital and improved infrastructure remained clear, with locals also seeking NDIS and aged care assistance.
Ms Aldred said the mobile office initiative offered locals an opportunity to discuss issues that mattered to them while staying close to home.
