Goannas return

The first weekend of the new cricket season saw the Goannas Over-70 team preparing for a clash with the Essendon Veterans.

The weather ensured no play would take place, but Essendon have agreed to look at a replacement fixture later in the season.

The over-70 team's round two game will be an away game against the South Gippsland Seniors in the week of October 19.

The over-60's season will begin this weekend on Sunday, October 11 with the Goannas hosting the Canterbury Over-60s.

The Goannas Over-50 team are also due to start their season this Sunday, with an away game against the Eastern Hawks Over-50 team.

This season, for the first time, there will be National Championships for each five-year age group from Over 50 through to Over-80.

The Goannas will be represented at all of these, and are hosting the Over-60 Championships, in the Latrobe Valley, from November 21 to 26; and the Over-55 Championships in the Sale Maffra area from December 6 to 10.
Any cricketer in Gippsland over the age of 50, who would like to play against their own age group, can contact the Goannas secretary, Ian Gibson, on 0427 376776.
