Rotary assists with student project

Drouin Rotary Club has again been invited to assist Drouin Secondary College VCE vocational major students with their community project.

In previous years the projects were: a disabled-access picnic table in Goudie Park; and, refurbishment of a section of walking track at Labertouche Caves.

This year, students Jem and Olivia wanted to build a covered seating area at the school.

Led by Rotarian Max Scott, a small group of Drouin Rotarians became the support team assisting the students refine their plans through research, planning and finding partners, then formalising a budget and a fundraising activity.

The Rotary Club offered some financial support and the students approached Drouin Mitre 10 with a plan to run a barbecue on a Saturday morning.

The students were required to plan for and organise the activity, with the active involvement of teacher Kevin Thorpe and a number of Rotarians on the day.

Particular thanks to Mitre 10 Manager Leigh Hawke for his support of this activity and his generous consideration when costing materials purchased for the planned seating.
The result? Two sturdy wooden seats designed, constructed and ready for secure installation at the college at a time and in a location determined by the administration.
