Speaking on the big stage

The Warragul Lions Club has put some young speakers to the test at its recent junior public speaking competition.

Held at the Warragul Country Club, the competition is run for primary school students in grades three to six and gives the students the chance to develop their public speaking skills and improve their self-confidence.

Seven students competed this year, representing Darnum, Ripplebrook and Warragul North.

For the competition each student was required to prepare and deliver a speech on a pre-determined topic, with grades three and four having three minutes allocated and grades five and six getting four.
Each of the students performed very well, much to the delight of the audience in attendance. The smiles on the faces of their parents and teachers showed how proud a moment this was for them.
The judges had a difficult decision this year and eventually announced the winners were:
Oscar Williamson (grades three and four) - Darnum Primary School
Evie McKinnon (grades five and six) - Warragul North Primary School
The two winners went on to compete at the next stage of the competition on September 13, with Lions District 201v3 final set to take place in October.
