Drouin Croquet Club recently hosted Bunyip-Garfield Probus Club for a couple of games of croquet and a barbecue lunch.
Despite most having never picked up a mallet before, the 35 visitors immediately started playing before lunch.
Playing in pairs with four per game, some took to croquet quite easily and others were surprised at their abilities in a short time.
It was a good experience, with all agreeing a lot of thinking and strategies were involved in playing croquet. Judging distances to hit to the next hoop, hitting opponents away to prevent them making the hoop, and remembering the order of play were just some of the skills learnt on the day.
Following lunch, another game was played.
Many were quite happy with their achievements, and all had fun playing the game together. Above all, the Probus members enjoyed a new experience.
The croquet club was pleased the prepare and host the social day and the Probus club are enthusiastic to make it an annual event.
