A precious family pooch has been found safe and well after going on an adventure of a lifetime in Darnum and beyond.
Pippy, the broken coat wire haired Jack Russell, went missing last Sunday, with the Bannister family thinking she may have just been off chasing rabbits.
When Katrina returned from her midwifery work at West Gippsland Hospital later that night, they realised Pippy was still missing and began to worry.
They checked the sheds, the backyard and by Monday, were asking neighbours if they had seen their beloved dog, while also posting on Facebook and asking at the general store.
“I went to work again on Monday, so my husband and the kids went out and widened the search for her. I must admit, the longer the time went I got more emotional,” she said.
By Tuesday afternoon, Katrina thought she would look under the house and as she passed by her car, she heard scratching.
“I thought it was a rat, but I thought I’d open up the bonnet in my car just to check and there she was, she just stood up and I just lost it,” she said.
Pippy had found her way into the car engine, with Katrina thinking she may have been chasing a rat and became stuck.
“She never barked, and it was only the scratch that alerted me. When she saw me and I put her down, she just raced towards the water,” she said.
Pippy, despite spending two days inside the car next to the engine and travelling on the freeway to work with Katrina, suffered no injuries or burns which the family called a miracle.
“I just couldn’t believe it, I called my husband straight away and said you won’t believe where I found her,” she said.
Pippy is now back to her old self after spending Wednesday recovering from her ordeal.
The family wanted to thank those who had been looking for Pippy around Darnum, with the family happy to have Pippy back in their arms once again.
