Baw Baw Shire will start the process to appoint an independent external investigator to examine recent allegations by former councillor Joe Gauci.
Following council's decision to approve up to $100,000 being spent, Baw Baw Shire acting chief executive Leanne Hurst said a quote process would now get underway.
"To ensure transparency, an announcement will be made when the investigator has been appointed," Ms Hurst said.
"Council takes Mr Gauci's allegations very seriously. When they were first raised, we committed to fully investigate all allegations and to take appropriate action in due course based on the findings of those investigations.
"We are following through on that commitment.
"By engaging a fully independent, expert external provider we are ensuring that the process is carried out at arm's length from council, and with an appropriate level of scrutiny and impartiality," Ms Hurst said.
