Milestone for care centres

More than 4300 people have been treated across Gippsland's two Priority Primary Care Centres in the four months to April 30.
Baw Baw and Latrobe are the only PPCCs in Gippsland, and work to deliver urgent care to people to relieve pressure on emergency departments.
In the period to April 7, 2224 patients accessed Baw Baw's PPCC - 841 of those in April alone.
Gippsland Primary Health Network acting chief executive officer Angela Jacob said the PPCCs were doing a good job treating patients when they were unable to get an appointment with their regular doctor and do not require emergency hospital care.
"It is pleasing to see that the 4377 patients treated at Gippsland's two PPCCs have so far been diverted from emergency departments," she said.
"That's made life significantly easier for these patients, the patients who needed emergency treatment, and the health care staff who are there to take care of them."
PPCCs are funded by the Victorian Government, and only 23 operate state wide, with three more set to open.
The busiest centre in the state is in Ballarat, recording 7000 patient visits since it opened at the end of October 2022.
