Grants for Landcare projects

State grants for Landcare projects by community and young people groups are now available.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said up to $5000 was available to childcare centres, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, scouts, girl guides and youth groups.
The funding can be used for hands-on projects such as planting indigenous gardens, building habitat to attract native birds and insects, collecting data about nature and for excursions to wildlife sanctuaries.
Volunteer community grants can apply for as much as $20,000 to undertake on-ground works and community education projects that protect or improve the natural environment,
A further $500 is available to help with administration and running costs.
Ms Shing said the community grants were open to environmental volunteers organisations such as Landcare, friends groups, conservation management networks, committees of management, coastcare and aboriginal groups.
She said the government was providing $4.4 million for the Landcare Grants and Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants.
