Grants available to preserve heritage

This year's Community Heritage Grants program run through the National Library of Australia is now open for applications.
Additionally, Cardinia Shire is offering funding to restore and conserve places of heritage value.
Applications for the national program that has allocated $8.4 million to some 1600 projects over the past 30 years close on June 1 at nla.gov.au/chg
Recipients of 57 regional and community grants issued last year included the Holden Museum at Trafalgar.
In Cardinia Shire, council is offering up to $5000 for heritage preservation projects on public land and $2000 for those on privately owned property including commercial premises and other significant sites.
The properties must be covered by a heritage overlay in the shire's planning scheme.
Gardens, trees and hedges covered by a heritage overlay are also eligible for funding.
More information is available at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/heritage grants or by calling 1300 787624.
