From Drouin to Sri Lanka - sharing the play

Children in a Sri Lankan town are now happily playing on equipment that three years ago had entertained youngsters at Drouin.
After Baw Baw Shire council decided to greatly extend and upgrade the playground in Civic Park at Drouin the local Rotary Club convinced council to let it dismantle the redundant playground equipment and have it utilised through the Rotary Overseas Relocated Playgrounds Program.
It has been a long journey with many difficult economic times and health issues in the country being major factors in delaying Columbo Rotary Club completing the reinstallation last month.
Photographs of what a big deal their new playground is for the local children in the town of Rajabima were sent through to the Drouin club whose members were delighted to see that finally the equipment was back in use rather than going to waste if the club had not claimed it.
The Rotary playground program provides no longer wanted equipment to a number of countries including Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, Nepal and The Philippines.
