Fire restrictions over

Summer fire restrictions in Baw Baw Shire ended yesterday.
However the Country Fire Authority said there was no reason for complacency with the grass fire risk remaining across many areas.
Lifting of restrictions from yesterday also applied to the other five municipalities in Gippsland - Latrobe, South Gippsland, Bass Coast, Wellington and East Gippsland - as well as neighbouring Cardinia shire.
CFA deputy chief officer south-east region Trevor Owen said people should continue to be prepared and alert and monitor conditions on hot, windy days when there could be an elevated fire risk.
He said although the end of the declared Fire Danger Period gave an opportunity for some land owners to burn-off it was important that checks were made to ensure local conditions were safe before undertaking burns.
Mr Owen said that expectations were that the next bushfire season would be more significant than recent years and stressed the importance of preparing by reducing risks on their properties.
Landowners planning burn-off should register them at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au or call 1800 668 511 and also neighbours and nearby residents to avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services.
