Cultural celebration

Students at St Joseph's Primary School, Trafalgar celebrated Japanese culture with a colourful day of hands-on activities, food, art, dance and learning as part of the school's Japanese program.

Led by Susan Taylor, known to students as Taylor Sensei, the celebration gave students the opportunity to explore Japanese traditions in an engaging and memorable way.

Students arrived dressed in Japanese-themed outfits or in red and white, the colours of the Japanese flag, adding to the excitement of the day.
Throughout the day, children rotated through a range of activities including Japanese cooking, a Japanese-themed Kahoot quiz, dancing, cherry blossom painting, origami, calligraphy and making sumo sock puppets.
The celebration concluded with students learning a brand-new Japanese dance together on the asphalt, bringing the school community together through movement, music and culture.
The event was a memorable day filled with creativity, laughter and cultural learning. St Joseph's Primary School thanked Taylor Sensei and the dedicated Year 6 leaders for organising a successful celebration that helped students develop a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture.
