Cardinia Shire council is proposing changes to its governance rules to provide more transparency and community engagement.
The proposed draft amendments to the rules, now available on council's website - www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/GovRules2024 - are open for public comment until May 14.
The major changes put forward are to publish agendas for ordinary and special council meetings six days beforehand and for notices of motion, including rescission notices to be lodged at least 14 days before a meeting.
The time allocated for community questions would be brought forward to benefit community members wanting to ask questions at meetings.
Comments can be lodged on the website or by email to mail@cardinia.vic.gov.au
After considering the public feedback council expects to adopt the amended rules in June.
Cardinia's governance rules were last updated in 2022 and determine how council operates, makes decisions, and conducts meetings and acts with accountability, integrity and transparency.
