Car accelerates into office

A Nissan Patrol station wagon ended up inside a Smith St office building on Thursday night.
The incident unfolded when the vehicle's driver, an 80-year-old Warragul man returned to his vehicle after collecting food from a nearby store.
Police said the elderly man attempted to reverse the vehicle out of a parking spot, but the car was in first gear. The man's foot slipped onto the accelerator and the vehicle was launched forward over a brick garden bed and into the Smith St premises.
Police said acceleration continued once the vehicle was over the garden bed and ended up almost entirely inside the building.
There was a man inside the building at the time of the incident, but he saw the vehicle and quickly moved to the back of the store to avoid being injured.
The elderly man was assessed by Ambulance Victoria but did not need to attend hospital.
SES and Victoria Police attended the scene and secured the building.
The man's licence has been submitted for review.
