Twin brothers David and Bruce Cole have stepped down as members of the Warragul Cemetery Trust after a combined 62 years of service.
The trust recognised their outstanding voluntary contribution, and the support they had received from their wives Ila and Margaret, at a recent luncheon in their honour.
Dave joined the trust in 1990 and Bruce followed three years later.
Their building skills proved invaluable after the trust's 1990 purchase of a 57-acre property in Burke St that has become Gulwarra Height Memorial Park cemetery.
Along with other volunteers David and Bruce moved and replaced fencing, shifted and built barns and sheds, cleared land and provided voluntary labour to the contractor that built on site the trust's offices, chapel, reception room and facilities at the new cemetery.
Fittingly the luncheon in their honour was held in the reception room.
While David and Bruce see their service to the community as a privilege others are in awe of what they've done.
Few organisations have volunteers that have shown the level of their commitment over such a long time, particularly when it involved a lot of hard labour.
