A Marist-Sion College year 11 student has received one of two scholarships awarded by the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children.

The $2000 scholarship will help Mitchell Needham to pursue his interests in science and information technology.

Staff development officer Ron Ruzzier said Mitchell was an extremely perceptive and analytical student.

"He has the ability to see through problems and articulate them extremely well.

"I saw him last year explaining physics to a year 10 class. He had the whole class enthralled."

Mitchell, who lives in Longwarry, plans to study science or IT at university.

Carmel Meehan, of the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children, presented the scholarship to Mitchell at school last week.
