Thirty-three evacuees from an aged care facility at Morwell are being temporarily accommodated in the new wing built at Drouin's Lyrebird Village for the Aged. The residents at Baptcare St Hilary's Community were relocated to Drouin on March 1 after Health Department warnings of possible health risks, particularly for elderly people, from smoke and ash from the fire at the Hazelwood coal mine just south of Morwell. Manager at Lyrebird Bill Baker said it was more than willing to help out another community. The high care Morwell residents are being accommodated in the recently completed $13-million extension to Lyrebird. Mr Baker said taking in the extra people had minimal affect on Lyrebird's planned staged admission program for the extra 49 beds provided in the extension. Normally there would be a limited number of beds available at Lyrebird but with the completion of the Banksia building beds were available for the unplanned emergency at Morwell.
