Exhibiting at WAS Gallery throughout the month of October, local artist Sue Lorraine launched her series 'Loose Ends' on Tuesday September 29.

A free entry exhibit, Loose Ends is an artistic collection of objects, furniture and unanswered questions, an expression that Sue has described as an opportunity to revisit some earlier works, make some new work, contemplate the complexity of history, and wonder about the future.

While the series began its residency as the gallery's major exhibition not only for October but 2026 on September 29, Sue was attended an official opening for the works at WAS on Saturday 26 September. Anyone who missed it, and would wish to speak to the artist during their visit to the gallery is encouraged to attend for a special viewing on Sunday 25 October, 2pm to 4pm.

A nationally recognised artist whose work is represented in galleries and collections across Australia and overseas, Ms Lorraine said the exhibition provided an opportunity to reflect on both the past and the future through her artistic practice.

"My practice revolves around my relationship with objects," she said."I enjoy the stories they hold, the stories they tell and the stories they conceal. I have a rather fluid approach to making, where I start and where I end up is not always an obvious trajectory. It's more a journey, straying and meandering along a curious and winding path."
The exhibition also coincides with another significant milestone in Ms Lorraine's artistic career. As a founding member of Adelaide's Gray Street Workshop, she is currently involved in Beautiful Tensions, a touring exhibition celebrating the workshop's 40th anniversary.
The collective, which includes artists Catherine Truman, Jess Dare and Lisa Furno, was awarded the prestigious South Australian Ruby Prize for Best Arts Organisation last year.
Known for transforming found and discarded objects into intricate artworks, Ms Lorraine's practice is centred on uncovering
the narratives hidden within familiar items.
Loose Ends is showing at WAS Gallery, 37 Latrobe Street, Warragul, until November 7. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, with free entry. More information is available at wasgallery.com.au.
