Trafalgar Lions Club recently hosted a junior public speaking competition for students from St Joseph's, Narracan, Thorpdale and Trafalgar primary schools.
All of the students were given the same topic.
Grades three to four students spoke for three minutes on the topic: "A place, other than in your home state that you would like to visit."
Students had to talk about why they would like to visit this place, how they would get there, and what they would like to see and do when they get there.
The grades five to six children spoke for four minutes on the topic "Introduce a famous person who lived in the 19th century," such as Charlie Chaplin, Florence Nightingale, Helen Keller, Alexander Bell, Louis Pasteur.
Students were asked to introduce the famous person at a special event, talk about the person, what they did and how they became famous.
The school judging was held in July with 50 students competing in the two age groups.
The winners at school level were: St Joseph's - grades three/four Lorelei Withers, grades five/six Liana Eerhard; Narracan - grades three/four Harun Schloetel, grades five/six Liam Rossignoli; Trafalgar - grades three/four Poppy Brown, grades five/six Otis Stretch; Thorpdale - grades three/four Samual Jennings, grades five/six Ruby Westbury.
At the first Lions meeting in August the winners from Narracan, St Joseph's and Trafalgar primary schools competed in the club final.
Every student was supported by their families, school principal, teachers and Lions club members.
All students spoke very well and all received warm applause from the audience.
The grades three/four final was won by Harun Schloetel of Narracan Primary School and the grades five/six final was won by Liana Earhard from St Joseph's Primary.
The semi finals for junior public speaking will be held in Trafalgar on Sunday, October 9.
The clubs attending will be Lakes Entrance Lioness, Briagolong, Heyfield, Moe, Trafalgar, Willow Grove and Warragul.
