West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) was last week named the Premier's Medium Health Service of the Year at the 2026 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.
The award recognised WGHG's commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive and sustainable care for its growing community.
WGHG chief executive officer Shannon Wight said the achievement reflected the collective contribution of staff across its hospital, aged care and community services.
"Accepting this award on behalf of our team was an incredibly proud moment.
"Every day, our people bring skill, compassion and commitment to caring for West Gippsland. This recognition belongs to all of them, whether they work directly with patients, residents and families or behind the scenes keeping our services running," Ms Wight said.
The award recognised WGHG's response to increasing demand through innovative models of care, strong community partnerships, workforce development, environmental sustainability initiatives and responsible financial management.
As West Gippsland grows, these efforts are helping the health service respond to changing needs and strengthen access to care close to home.
"Our community is at the heart of everything we do. We are continually looking at how we can improve care, support our workforce and build partnerships that make a meaningful difference for local people," Ms Wight said.
"This award is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the work happening across our services and to thank the people who make it possible."
Ms Wight also acknowledged the contribution of WGHG's board, volunteers, donors and community partners.
"We are fortunate to have a community that cares deeply about its local health service. The time, generosity and support people give to WGHG are an important part of our story," she said.
"We hope our whole community shares in the pride of this achievement."
WGHG was named the winner alongside fellow finalists East Grampians Health Service and IPC Health.
The Victorian Public Healthcare Awards celebrate the achievements of healthcare professionals, volunteers and public health services across Victoria.
