Large AusNet towers removed from Warragul, Drouin

Two towers up to 30 metres high that were installed by AusNet at Warragul and Drouin in recent years have been removed.
The towers - Drouin's in the central business district and Warragul's near the golf course - housed the first technology used by AusNet to communicate with its smart meters installed on properties in the towns.
A spokesperson said new technology using a mesh operating platform had now superseded the WiMAX towers.
She said the replacement technology enabled faster detection and fixing of faults and more efficiently sent data to retailers for easier billing.
It also minimises the need to manually read customers' electricity meters.
