Students learn at mini supermarket

Students at Warragul and District Specialist School can now learn shopping skills with a Mini Woolies store opening at the school.
The Mini Woolies program aims to support the education of students with disabilities through hands-on learning experiences through a simulated Woolworths supermarket.
Warragul and District Specialist School converted a classroom to allow for the Mini Woolies which features baskets for fresh food, shelving for groceries, ticketing, signage and Woolworths branded uniforms students can wear to create an immersive educational experience.
The site also has registers that students can use to learn how to scan grocery items when they practise processing sales.
There are 28 other Mini Woolies locations across Victoria, and 131 sites across Australia and New Zealand.
Woolworths head of technology - domain enablement Sheila O'Reilly said the launch at WDSS was incredibly exciting.
"These spaces are all about helping students build confidence, learn new skills and gain independence while having fun. We can't wait to see how it becomes part of their everyday learning," she said.
