Free community barbecue this week
A free community barbecue designed to give back to the community this Christmas will be held at Eastern Park in Warragul on Saturday, December 20.
Organised by Warragul resident Zoltan Banyai, the event will be held behind Warragul Community House between 11am and 2pm and is open to everyone in the community.
Similar to a food van and barbecue event Mr Banyai organised last December in partnership with JRN Community Housing, the community barbecue is focused on reaching people in need in the local community.
"A lot of people are struggling this time of the year to make ends meet," Mr Banyai said. "Everything's so expensive now and it's not a nice feeling to not be able to put something on the table or to do something just before Christmas."
"Mums and dads or even grandparents who are struggling, can come to something like this and do something nice with the kids, and not feel like they're going to stretch the bank."
Mr Banyai said he organised the event as a way of giving back to his community.
"I love Gippsland, people have been really good and accepting of me and I just think it's good to give back," he said.
"I just want to help families who are struggling, to do something, nice for their kids or their families."
A barbecue and a range of other food from local businesses and groups will be on offer at the free event.
Mr Banyai said he'd received support from Member for Narracan Wayne Farnham in his organising efforts.
The community barbecue will be held at Eastern Park in Warragul on Saturday December 20 between 11am and 2pm.
