COVID-19 online information session on vaccinations for children

Parents and carers of 5 to 11-year-olds living in Gippsland will have the opportunity learn about the COVID-19 vaccine for children from experts at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute this Thursday.  

The free information session, 'COVID-19 vaccines for children: safety and effectiveness' will be held online on Thursday, 7 April 2022 from 6pm to 7.30pm. The session will be aimed at parents of children aged 5 to 11-years-old living in the region, as well as friends and families. 

The session will provide an overview of COVID-19 vaccine recommendations and information about vaccine safety and effectiveness. A Q&A session will be part of the online meeting and attendees will be able to ask speakers questions about COVID-19 vaccines. It will also include advice on how to discuss COVID-19 vaccines with other people who may have concerns. 

Speakers for the evening are Associate Professor Margie Danchin and Dr Jessica Kaufman. The pair, with other experts, developed the information session.

Professor Danchin is the Group Leader of Vaccine Uptake at the Murdoch Children's Institute. She is an immunisation expert. Her research focuses on vaccine confidence and uptake, particularly in 
high risk-groups and in low and middle-income countries, and on effective risk communication.

Dr Kaufman is a Research Fellow in Vaccine Uptake at the Murdoch Children's Institute. She is an editor and author with Cochrane Consumers and Communication review group, which publishes
systematic reviews on health communication and participation interventions.
