Worried by what budget didn't say - Broadbent

Member for Monash Russell Broadbent said what was not stated in the budget about funding for the Gippsland region had him "a bit worried".
While he hadn't heard of any specific spending cuts that would affect Gippsland Mr Broadbent said "we'll have to wait until the federal government writes to the state government" to find out.
He said he was specifically concerned there was no announcement of funding towards a new West Gippsland Hospital which both the state government and opposition had stated support for ahead of the state election later this month.
"We want to know now that the federal government also supports it so we can get on with building it".
Mr Broadbent said the $2.2 billion federal funding towards the cost of the metropolitan suburban rail loop should have been allocated to hospitals including West Gippsland.
He also said there was nothing positive in the budget for the region's roads and nothing that would tackle the rising cost of living.
"Interest rates for home buyers will continue to rise and the price of all petrol grades was already rising rapidly".
The cost of diesel petroleum relied on by many business and family cars and almost all medium to heavy transport vehicles was now about 60 cents a litre higher than unleaded petrol because of the high cost of gas used in diesel production, Mr Broadbent added.
