Trafalgar's tight battles

Trafalgar's bowlers had a mixed round three across the midweek and weekend pennant competitions, with a midweek win followed by two Saturday victories.
Several matches were close, including a one-shot result in the midweek competition and a pair of narrow weekend defeats.
Midweek teams were first on the greens, with Trafalgar represented in divisions one, three and five.
Division one produced the club's lone midweek win, defeating Morwell 59/51 to finish eight shots ahead. It was a solid result for the side and gave Trafalgar a positive start to the round.
Division three came very close to adding another win, but lost 59/60 to Traralgon.
With only one shot separating the teams, it was the tightest result of the midweek matches.
Division five also had a narrow loss, losing 38/40 to Churchill. The two-shot margin meant the team was close to turning the result around, but Churchill finished just in front.
The midweek round therefore ended with one win and two losses for Trafalgar.
While division one took the points, divisions three and five were left with close results that show how small the margins can be in pennant bowls.
Saturday's weekend pennant brought another mix of results across divisions one, three, five and seven.
Division one faced Traralgon RSL and lost 70/74.
Division three also had a competitive match, but lost 70/76 to Warragul, by six shots.
Trafalgar's weekend wins came in divisions five and seven.
Division five defeated Longwarry 62/50, winning by 12 shots.
Division seven also secured a clear result, beating Moe 34/26 for an eight-shot victory. Those wins gave Trafalgar two successful results from the four Saturday matches.
Across the two competitions, Trafalgar recorded three wins and four losses.
The scores included a one-shot midweek defeat, a two-shot midweek defeat, and a pair of weekend wins with margins of eight and 12 shots.
There were positive results to take from both days, along with close matches that could have gone either way. Six of the seven matches were decided by eight shots or fewer, showing how little separated several sides.
