Speedway takes off at Drouin

Drouin Speedway will get their new season underway this Saturday as racing fans can enjoy a plethora of events on offer.
Beginning from 1pm, the day will kick off with the annual Wingless Sprint Classic - paying $2000 to win - the crowd favourite hot rods from the Speedway Drivers Association of Victoria club, the women's standard saloon Shake and Bake Series, open standard saloons and junior standard saloons.
Wayne Logue, Koo wee rup's Thomas McDonald, Ricky Mills, Nar Nar Goon's Nathan Orton, Scott Irons, David Hutchinson, Travis Evans and Peter Logue are all popular Gippsland residents who will be behind the wheel of their wingless sprints, with some of them serious victory contenders.
Drouin men Andrew Kemp and Daniel Chesterfield are popular locals who will be amongst the hot rod field. Kemp is last season's state champion, and the boys will be up against plenty of other challengers.
Trafalgar's Bree Walker, Caroline Allen, Katie Meyer and Drouin's own Tasharni Murray will be in the hunt for series round honours in the women's standard saloon Shake and Bake Series round.
Eight women will hit the track, with Walker the favourite based on the last 12 months' results, under pressure though from a talented field.
Bunyip resident Cooper Irons, Charlie Benson and Ashton Joynson - all Drouin members - will compete in junior standard saloon competition. Benson is a rookie driver continuing the long family lineage in speedway.
Irons and Joynson are experienced and will be looking for the victory.
In standard saloon competition for the lads, Colin Connolly - who has had a strong start to his season - Jack Yeomans, Kane Gibson, Cooper Joynson and Victor Benson are just some of those in the mix for this weekend's race meeting with club points on offer as drivers chase the season championship.
Entry opens for fans from 10am, racing from 1pm at the following ticket prices: adult $25, child (eight to 16) $15, family (two adults and two children age eight to 16) $60, kids under eight free.
