Wet forces races abandonment

The annual Boxing Day picnic race meeting at Drouin has been abandoned.
The wet state of the track that could have compromised horse and rider safety led to the decision.
The picnic day races are usually a highlight of the festive season at Drouin attracting people from a wide part of the state including many former residents that return for reunions with friends.
Club spokesman Greg Cole said it was disappointing to abandon this year's event, particularly following a tough couple of years due to COVID.
He said the club wanted to ensure people the races were off this year to avoid many arriving at the course to find the gate closed and no horses.
About 2000 people usually attend the Boxing Day meeting.
