Warriors season over

The Warragul Warriors' finals run came to an end on Saturday night, with minor premiers Sherbrooke proving too strong in an 89-71 semi-final win at Upwey.
It brings the curtain down on a hugely successful first season back in the Big V for the Warriors that that delivered a finals berth, a home final and a record crowd.
The Warriors led early and took a 23-19 lead into the first break, but the minor premiers found another gear in the second quarter and gradually took control, their size and scoring proving the difference across the middle of the game.
To their credit, Warragul never dropped their heads and kept fighting to the final siren.
Captain Jordan Gooiker stood up immensely when the game was on the line, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Luke Rawiri caught fire late with back-to-back three-pointers to spark a Warriors push - he top-scored with 19 - but the deficit proved too much to reel in.
Murray Myers was manic on the ball all night, harassing Sherbrooke's playmakers, while Breyton Buysman again battled hard inside for 13 points and eight rebounds.
In their first season back in the Big V, the Warriors climbed into the top four, earned and won a home elimination final in front of a club-record crowd of close to 500, and pushed deep into September against the competition's best.
The club thanked its players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, families and supporters for getting behind the Warriors all season long.
The Warriors confirmed last week that Benjamin Gaze will return to lead the Big V Men's team in 2027, continuing the progress built this season.
The Warriors also announced a commitment to fielding a women's team in what is a significant step forward for the club and for Warragul basketball.
In addition, the club has opened expressions of interest for a Youth League Men's team, creating new pathways for the next generation of Warriors.
