Fiona McLaurin, a teacher at Trafalgar High School is being celebrated for reaching 40 years of service in education.
At the final assembly for term two principal Jane Mersey surprised Ms McLaurin in front of the school with a new plant for her garden to mark the milestone.
Ms Mersey said 'Ms Mac', the name students use to refer to Ms McLaurin, has completed all 40 years at Trafalgar High School, which she described as an amazing commitment to one community.
"Many students currently in the school, but also your parents and family members have had Ms Mac as a teacher," Ms Mersey said.
Ms McLaurin did not attend the ceremony in Melbourne, but a Facebook post from Harriet Shing MP celebrating all the service award recipients in Eastern Region let the students know. They have been thanking Ms McLaurin for her service to public education, which has made a significant impact on the lives of so many students and families.
As well as teaching physical education and health subjects across all years, Ms McLaurin has been a year-level coordinator, the leader of the health and physical education department, and coach to many school sports teams throughout the years.
