Gulls playing for a great cause in Gippsland League

The Gulls and Hawks both hit the road in round nine of the Gippsland League, as Warragul looks to benefit from the return of some young guns in a game played for a great cause.
Drouin, meanwhile, will look to make a good impression as they face the biggest challenge the Gippsland League has to offer.
Bairnsdale vs Warragul
The Gulls will have some much-needed relief as a host of their young stars return this week from their Gippsland Power duties.
Warragul have made seven changes from their team last week, the club looking to bounce back from consecutive 100+ point losses when they travel to Bairnsdale.
Lachlan Smith, Lane Ward, Patrick Ireland, Liam Serong, Tom Stern, Jasper Alger and Tom Kelly are all into the team, giving the senior side some respite after a year absolutely cursed with injuries.
The inclusions, particularly Smith, Serong and Alger, should give the Gulls some more bite around the goals to a side that has managed just 15 goals in their past four games.
For comparison, Wonthaggi's Cooper McInnes has kicked 16 goals himself in that same time.
It should make for some much better viewing for Gulls fans, particularly at a ground that Warragul has not managed victory at since 2016.
Bairnsdale, meanwhile, will be desperate for a win, having not been on the right side of the scoreboard since round three.
The Redlegs began the year in fine fashion, going the first three weeks of the year undefeated, before having been brought crashing back down to Earth with five straight losses.
It means they've gone from being nestled inside the top five to now being six points behind fifth place and fading fast.
They recruited heavily in the off-season and while their new players have made a solid impact to already improve on 2022's two-win season, the Redlegs have proven to be no match for the top sides.
It leaves for an interesting game, given the Gulls will want to make full use of their young guns while they have them.
Regardless of the result of the game, there's plenty for fans to get down to Bairnsdale City Oval for as the Redlegs host a rural edition of the FightMND Big Freeze event.
Locals will be making the slide into icy water, including Warragul's Jed Lamb and Dean Hendrikse, as they raise money for a great cause, showing the power of footy goes well beyond what happens on the field.

Leongatha vs Drouin
Drouin head to Parrot Park as they prepare to take on the best the Gippsland League has to offer.
The Hawks' endeavour, as has often been the case this year, couldn't be questioned last week against Moe, but the gap in quality between the sides won out in the end.
Drouin remain winless on the bottom after eight matches, but with a percentage better than more than a few sides above them they'd have to be one of the best bottom teams going around at the moment.
Things don't get much harder in local footy, however, than facing off away from home against Leongatha.
Despite having their 34-game winning streak ended by Moe two weeks ago, the reigning premiers remain, in many people's eyes, the team to beat this year.
Boasting quality stars on every line, there's a reason they have the shining reputation they do as a club.
For a team like Drouin, they're the perfect example of what rebuilding sides want to become as they grow and develop.
The Hawks' recent record against the Parrots makes for tough reading - the green and gold have won nine of their past 10 encounters.
That includes both of their meetings last season, one of which seeing the Hawks held goalless for an entire match.
Gippsland Power captain Seb Amoroso returns for the Hawks for a solid boost, as does Matthew Stein, while Cambell Jolly and Dan Clebney are the outs.
Games don't get much tougher than this, but despite the defeats this year Drouin have remained unfazed and positive about their position.
They'll need that fearless approach if they are to make an impact here.
Other games
Sale and Traralgon clash in a vital game for both sides.
The boys in black and white have made a resurgence this year after an indifferent start. They've won their past three games and now sit inside the top five.
For Traralgon this week will be about redemption after a rather disastrous loss to Wonthaggi, where they were held to just three goals at home.
This will be Sale's first game against a top five team in some time, making this an intriguing watch.
Wonthaggi welcome Morwell to their home ground as they look to win their sixth straight game.
The Power put the rest of the competition on notice last week with their dismantling of Traralgon, and now look to be a serious challenger for the flag.
Morwell, meanwhile, were able to keep in touch with the top five after grinding out a tough win against Bairnsdale.
With the two teams directly above them facing off a win here would be massive, but it's hard to go past the Power's recent form.
Finally, Moe hosts Maffra.
Now looking like a flag fancy, the Lions are full of confidence, thanks in large part to the form of recent recruit Billy Gowers.
Gowers has booted 11 goals from his first two games and has proven a shrewd replacement for injured forward Kristian Jaksch.
Maffra's rebuild has them playing some solid footy at this stage, but they were a clear level below Leongatha last week.
Moe will be looking to tick this one off and get the job done with as little hassle as possible.
