Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating a shooting in Warragul early Saturday morning that left a Morwell man with non life threatening injuries.
The 31-year-old man was transferred to Melbourne after taking himself to West Gippsland Hospital in a taxi.
A crime scene was established at a motel in Rulemount Rd where police believe the alleged shooting occurred.
Police said the shooting was being treated as an isolated incident and there was no risk to community members. Police believe the parties were known to each other – there is no further risk to members of the public.
Warragul Police sergeant John Roberts said police were called to the West Gippsland Hospital at 3.30am after the victim presented at hospital with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the thigh area.
"Police attended and spoke to the victim who was unable to provide much detail about how it occurred.
"Police located a scene nearby believed to be a crime scene and placed a guard on it until detectives arrived," he said.
Sgt Roberts said the man sustained chest injuries and was in a serious but stable condition.
The Rulemount Rd property was locked down as a crime scene on Saturday but has been now cleared.
