The Victorian Seniors Festival is back and in-person this October, with plenty of free or low-cost activities on offer for residents across the Baw Baw Shire for the entire month.
The festival also will be returning to live events just in time for its 40th anniversary, as it prepares to once again run annually across the state all month long in a celebration of community members aged 60 years and over.
Some local highlights for this year's festival include a Heart Foundation Walk run by the West Gippsland Health Group, free seniors group fitness sessions at the Warragul Leisure Centre, a garden and home expo at Lardner Park and a performance by Lonnie Lee at the Warragul Exhibition Hall.
Additionally, to further encourage Victorian seniors to get out and enjoy what the state has to offer, free public transport will be available for all Victorian Senior Card holders from October 2 to 9. This will allow eligible seniors to visit attractions across the state, both rurally and in Melbourne, to fully experience a variety of exciting activities on offer throughout the festival.
Festival programs are available for all interested community members from Coles and Woolworths stories in Drouin and Warragul, the West Gippsland Arts Centre, the Warragul Library and the Baw Baw Shire Council's customer service centre in Drouin.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Michael Leaney congratulated the festival on its 40th anniversary while saying how exciting it was to have it back up and running.
"We are excited to once again host in-person events as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival. The annual festival is a fantastic way for local seniors to reconnect, participate in community life and have some fun through the variety of opportunities available throughout the shire," he said.
