Tom had been in hospital for a number of weeks, after breaking his left ankle. He won in the last four minutes of the grand final when Brisbane roared home over Fremantle. He beat Peter Trewern and Brian Ramage by two points.
Tom had surgery at Maryvale Hospital, was moved to Latrobe Regional Hospital for several weeks and is now in West Gippsland Hospital.
He still has another month in care, before he can put any weight on his left foot and even dream of going home. He is very thankful for all the care he has been given by medical and nursing staff and strongly supports the need for a new hospital in Warragul.
