Warragul basketballer Taylah Giliam is ready to make a huge return in the WNBL, playing among the ranks of last year’s premiers the Southside Flyers.

The 22-year-old is looking forward to performing in front of a crowd again, after every team spent last season in the WNBL Queensland bubble due to COVID restrictions.

“This time last year we were up in Queensland enjoying the weather but it’ll be great to have a crowd and my family in the stands,” Giliam said.

In the condensed 2020 season, the Southside Flyers defeated Townsville in the Grand Final, 99-82.

It’s now Giliam’s fourth season in the national league, and it’s hoped the Flyers can defend their title as WNBL champions.

“We’re looking to go pretty deep into the season, we’ve got a strong group together and everyone gets along really well so it’s been great to be a part of,” Giliam said.

In the first game on the weekend, the Flyers defeated Bendigo Spirit, 94-83. Although Giliam didn’t get a run, she’s been through an intense training regime for the last three months

Like many female athletes, Giliam has juggled training commitments with other work and is currently studying a Master of Dietetics.

“It’s definitely a big balancing act but it just requires a lot of communication and working out what you can and can’t do,” Giliam said.
