A fairytale finish alluded Lang Lang in its first home game at its new Caldermeade facility against Poowong on Good Friday.

In front of a huge crowd estimated to be well in excess of 2000 people, Poowong led for a majority of the first half before slotting three majors in the last quarter to record a two-point win, 10.7-67 to 9.11-65.

Lang Lang missed opportunities and squandered a 14-point lead at the final break.  However, a long distance shot after the siren could have secured a fairytale finish for the Tigers.  Alas, the shot didn’t make the required distance.

Played under lights, it was a game of bursts, with neither side able to fully seize control.  The lead changed numerous times with Poowong’s strong start and four-goal final quarter proving the difference.

Lang Lang labelled the night a great spectacle played in perfect conditions.  Although the footy didn’t go as planned in terms of results, both the senior and reserves games provided close finishes.

The Tigers fared better in the netball, winning five of the six contests in the twilight fixture.

In addition to unveiling the new Caldermeade recreation reserve, Lang Lang also hosted the launch of life member Bob Utber’s book “Heart and Soul – A History of the Lang Lang Football Club 1900-2020”.
