In a top of the ladder showdown, the Warragul Warriors have grasped a narrow 92-88 victory over the Traralgon T-Birds on Sunday.
Both teams led scores at different points of the game but in the end, it was only four points that settled the rivalry and consolidated Warragul as the best team in the CBL.
It was a tense start for the Warriors, with the T-Birds quickly finding the net on their home turf. An outstanding attack from Frazar Brouns put Traralgon up by a point at the end of the first quarter. Brouns finished with 29 points overall, followed by Christian and Luis D’Angelo with 15 points each.
Down by a point, the Warriors were soon to fight back. Collecting 25 points in the second quarter, they led a dangerous attack that would give them a four-point margin to work with at halftime (46-42).
The second half saw both teams fight for the advantage, but scores remain relatively even. Warragul proved they can rely on their whole list to perform, with each player contributing to the final score.
Top score went to a brilliant Jarryd Moss on 25, followed by Ambu Uliando (17 points) and Luke McKenzie (15 points).
The T-Birds showed a ferocity to bring scores back before the buzzer, but the Warriors proved an unstoppable force once again.
Warragul will take on the Lakes Entrance Pelicans at home in the final round, and have set themselves up for a ruthless finals series.
