Putting science under the microscope

Drouin Primary School students celebrated National Science Week recently with a range of activities and events.
The week began with the science room opening for families to visit. Family members were able to participate in a variety of fun, science themed activities.
During the week school parent Kayla Hare attended the school to run microbiology workshops with years five and students.
Kayla is studying a masters in microbiology. Students collected samples, prepared slides and viewed their specimens under microscopes.
They were able to identify plant cells, cell walls, chloroplast, eggs and microorganisms such as parasites.
Every night families also took part in a daily family activity. Families worked together to make things such as marble runs, shadow puppets, space food, boats and weather reports.
