Can you vote at the election?

The Victorian Electoral Commission is urging community members to enrol to vote ahead of next month's state election.

Electoral commissioner Sven Bluemmel said more than 4.6 million Victorians were being asked to make their voices heard at the election.

"We are urging all eligible Victorians to make sure they participate at this state election and have their say," Mr Bluemmel said.

"Voting is our democratic right, and while it is compulsory in state elections for those living in Victoria who are Australian citizens aged 18 years and over, voting is also a privilege that allows each of us to have a real say in our future.

"Every vote counts, so make sure you're enrolled, understand your voting options and plan ahead to cast your vote by 6pm on election day, Saturday 28 November."
Victorians aged 18–44 years of age will have a strong voice, making up 44 per cent of the vote.

The youth vote will be a key to the election, Gen Z (age 18–29) and Millennial voters (aged 30–44) representing 44 per cent of enrolled Victorians, while 24 per cent are Gen X voters (aged 45–59) and 32 per cent are above the age of 60.

Along with strong youth representation, 30 per cent of Victorian voters were born overseas.

The VEC has launched its new statewide advertising campaign with information about enrolment and voting.

The campaign also will address the spread of false or misleading information about election processes. While there are no laws that regulate truth in political advertising in Victoria, all election material must be authorised under the law.

"If someone is telling you how, when or where to vote, stop and consider where the information is coming from, to help you make an informed decision," Mr Bluemmel said.

Electoral roll enrolments close at 8pm on November 3.
