Drouin Football Club is aiming to field a senior women’s football team next season.

The club already has a youth girls’ team, a number of whose players also represent the Gippsland Power Under 19 girls’ side.

President Chris Soumilas said an experienced coach had already been appointed and a group of female players had put their hands up for the senior team next year.

He said the youth girls’ team had provided a strong pathway for its members to progress to senior women’s football.

However, the club was keen for more prospective players to come forward for the senior team.

Inquiries can be made to coach Jason Mitchell, an accredited level two senior coach with a background that includes six years of coaching women’s football.

He can be contacted at 0488 254 065.

Light training sessions will get underway in October in preparation for the 2022 season.

Mr Soumilas said the club had yet to determine the competition it would seek to join.

Among “recruits” already committed to the new team is Lily Rose Williamson who has represented Vic Country.
