Guls retain cup
Warragul football netball club president Michael Ireland was all smiles after retaining the Warragul and Drouin Gazette Cup at Western Park. Drouin football club president Chris Soumilas’ smile was probably because his Hawks senior football side win maintained its place in the Gippsland League “five”.

Warragul Football Netball Club retained the Warragul and Drouin Gazette for the sixth successive time on Sunday.

But it was a close call.

One hundred  are split 50-50 on results of four football and six netball games played when Warragul and Drouin clash.

On Sunday, Warragul amassed 51 points from its wins in the A, B and C grade and 17& Under and 13&Under netball wins and the fourths football.

Drouin tallied 49 points, winning the senior reserves and thirds football and 15&Under netball.

It was nowhere near as close a shave when the two clubs met earlier in the season.

On that occasion Warragul’s only defeat was in the senior football, winning the other three grades of football and, in netball, posting five wins and a draw.

Drouin’s win on Sunday in the last game to finish on the day, the senior football, wasn’t enough to bridge the gap.
