String of burglaries

Two luxury cars were the final link in a spate of burglaries and stolen cars that unfolded in the Warragul area between Tuesday and Thursday.

A 21-year-old Morwell man has been charged and remanded in custody and a 22-year-old Newborough man continues to assist Baw Baw CIU detectives with investigations into the burglaries.

The Morwell man has been charged with multiple offences relating to burglaries in Nilma, Bona Vista and Warragul.

The incidents culminated in a burglary at a Gibson Rd, Warragul property on Thursday morning where a Mercedes sedan and Mercedes utility were stolen.

Police said the first incident occurred overnight on Tuesday night when a grey Subaru station wagon was stolen from a Hillview Close property at Nilma.

The vehicle was later used in a petrol drive-off in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the BP Gunns Gully service station at Newborough, and another theft of petrol at the Darnum General store at 8.45am on Thursday.

The Subaru was later recovered abandoned in East West Rd, Warragul.

At 3am on Thursday morning, the occupant of an East West Rd, Warragul house disturbed an offender who had accessed two vehicles at his property.

Police said the offender fled the property in a SUV.

Shortly after, at 3.30am, offenders were disturbed at a property in Bona Vista Rd.  Various personal items were stolen from three vehicles at the property.

At 8.30am on Thursday, detectives said offenders accessed a house in Gibson Rd and stole several sets of keys before stealing a Mercedes utility and a Mercedes sedan.

The utility was later seen travelling in Narracan Drv, Moe at 11am.  Police air wing assisted in the search.

While pursuing the utility, a black Ford Ranger crashed in front of a police car travelling in Mountain Glen Drv, Trafalgar.  Police arrested the Morwell and Newborough men at the scene.

The utility was later recovered in Anzac Rd, Trafalgar but the driver had fled the scene.

The Mercedes sedan was recovered in Bennett St, Moe.

Detectives are continuing investigations.
