Cats deny Magpies with late charge

POOWONG almost held on for the upset of the round, but were unable to deny a final term charge from Neerim-Neerim South.
With scores level in the final term, two late goals from range by the Cats ultimately proved the difference as the visitor prevailed, 7-7 (49) to 4-12 (36).
The clash between the fourth-placed Cats and fifth-placed Magpies promised to be a closely fought affair.
While it proved the case, strong winds and dark skies threatened to detract the spectacle. In signs of the reduced visibility, the goal umpires had to approach the scoreboard attendants twice to correct the scores.
