District defence force veterans' mental health and wellbeing will get a boost with funding approved for Warragul RSL to conduct retreats next year.
The announcement of a grant of almost $8950 towards the cost follows a visit to the Warragul RSL sub-branch early last month by state Veterans Minister Shaun Leane when members spoke to him about various programs they conduct as part of RSL Active and plans to expand those services.
Warragul president Ben Vahland said the success of its application to conduct a number of weekend retreats and respite weekends for ex-service people and their partners at Jumbuck Park, located south of Churchill and owned by a veteran.
He said the getaways would focus on mental health, resilience and team building using many of the 30 activities available on the site.
Mr Leane said the grant through the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund provided the practical support veterans may need to build a fulfilling life beyond their service.
That included opportunities to forge social connections and learn new skills, he said.
