Senseless attack on mosque

Police are investigating an act of religious hate crime on the Warragul Mosque, after a man was captured on CCTV scattering bacon on and around the place of worship.
The incident, which has been described by political leaders as a "vile, deliberate act of Islamophobic hate," occurred just days after the mosque was highlighted in a series of controversial social media posts, and was viewed as an escalation on previous acts of hate, which included graffiti and verbal abuse.
The Islamic Council of Victoria called the crime "calculated to cause maximum offense to Muslims and to intimidate a small regional community in the very place it gathers to pray."
"No congregation should have to keep cleaning hate off its walls", the Council said of the repeated targeting of the Warragul venue.
The footage, captured at 4:12pm on Wednesday, September 9, showed the offender to be wearing a grey and black Everlast hoodie with grey beanie, trackpants and sneakers. He approached the mosque from the Albert St frontage, heading west after appearing to cross the road.
Police have released the footage on Eyewatch, and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information.
