Hel meet the need with winter appeal
Baw Baw Food Relief's Winter Warmth Appeal wraps up at the end of August, and volunteers want people to know they are always there to help.
The organisation runs primarily on food and financial donations and with the help of volunteers who collect, sort and provide food for those who need it.
Until the end of the month, non-perishable food can be donated via purple collection bins at Coles and Woolworths in Drouin and Warragul.
Donations also can be made directly to BBFR, in Pearse St, Warragul.
"If we can get as many non-perishable food donations as we can into those purple bins, that would be brilliant. And we're also always happy to take monetary donations, which will help us purchase food," BBFR community relations co-ordinator Mark Cleeman said.
"That food will then go to those that are doing it most tough, whether it be on the streets, whether they're just finding it really difficult to make ends meet with the cost-of-living pressures, and the fuel costs have impacted greatly."
Mr Cleeman emphasised they encouraged people to ask for help when they needed it.
"For people that do need help, we're here to help," he said.
"We want to help people understand that there's no judgement here, that they come in the door and they're treated equally, and whatever you need, we will provide it to you - in terms of food and support."
"We've seen many a time where people have pulled up outside, sat there, and then five minutes later driven off. Try and dig deep and find the courage to come in and ask for help, because help is here if you need it."
While BBFR primarily provide food, they also have blankets, swags, tents and towels for those in need.
BBFR is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 1:30pm.
