Closer look at nature reserve

More than 50 people recently attended biodiversity event hosted by Friends of Drouin's Trees at Golden Whistler Reserve, including 21 children keen to learn about nature.

Attendees were divided into two groups. Two of Friends of Drouin's Trees members used a long poled camera with wireless screen to take a quick look in some of the nesting boxes so the children and their families could see what was using the boxes. Some very excited children got to see baby ring tailed possums in their nests in some of the boxes.
The 12 Thermal Haven nest boxes manufactured in Drouin by Bird Habitats, have been constantly in use since they were installed 15 months ago and are surviving the elements very well.
Friends member Peter Ware ran a binocular activity with some pictures of birds and other flora and fauna in strategic places for children and adults to spot.
All the children were able to take home an activity bag.
It was a great morning and well worth the effort of hosting and making children more aware of the nature in their community.
